January 2010 Results
Mark had the heaviest bag.
East Coast Bass Anglers held their first tournament of the year on Lake Okeechobee. The start of the tournament launching from the Okeetanie ramp was delayed for over 30 minutes due to a heavy fog that was blanketing the lake.When the fog finally began to show signs of clearing the members of the club took off for their honey holes. After the past two weeks of cold weather the water temps had finally begun to climb back into the 60’s. There were a variety of patterns and locations that held promise, but the fishing proved to be a little tougher than expected. There were only two limits weighed in on a day that was expected to produce lots of fish and some really large bags.
At the end of the day Tru-Tungsten Pro-staffer Mark Lundgren brought in the heaviest bag of the day, weighing in at just under 10lbs. This, combined with his partner’s weight of 1.15 lbs put the team of Mark Lundgren and Skip Jeslosky in first place. All of Marks fish were caught from a large spawning flat and most were fish that had just moved up to spawn and fell to a zoom speed craw rigged with a 1/4oz Tru-Tungsten weight.
The team of Matt Johnson and Al Nevarez took second place with 9.16lbs from the same spawning area, while the team of Hunter Broggi and Mike Schlueter nabbed third place honors with 6.84lbs that was caught almost exclusively on rattling crankbaits.
Overall it was a good tournament with several potential members fishing as guests. Hopefully we will be inviting them to join the club at the next meeting in February.
