East Coast Bass Anglers - Great Florida fishing

June 2009 results

Hunter with Tourney Big Bass.

Date: 6-20-2009
Location: Lake Kissimmee (Grape Hammock)

For our June 2009 East Coast Bass Anglers (ECBA) tournament, we went to Lake Kissimmee, launching at the south end from Grape Hammock. Most of the boaters traveled to Grape Hammock on Thursday to get in a couple of days of much needed practice.

On Saturday we launched at first safe light, around 6:00am for those of you not usually up that early! Most boats opted to head north to scattered areas throughout the lake, with a few boats starting out at the south end. It was a VERY Hot and Humid with very little wind, miserable to say the least. As a side note, for all those who dare to venture out in this weather make sure you bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and ice to cool your live well water throughout the day.

Most boats reported having success on a variety of baits, flukes, spinner baits, senkos, craws, finesse worms and crank baits were all used throughout the day. The high pressure and lack of wind definitely had an adverse impact on the fish, most anglers weighed in 5 lbs or less, including a few 5 fish limits.

In the end, the team of Mark Lundgren and Ed Owens emerged as the winners with both anglers reaching limit and a total of just over 15lbs. In second place was the team of Hunter Broggi and Al Navarez. Although neither angler had a limit they had enough weight to take home some money. Hunter also had Big Fish for the tournament, edging out Mark Lundgren by 1/100th of an ounce for the Big Fish Pot. In third were Leroy Bauer and his "ghost" partner Hunter Broggi.

Overall a very enjoyable tournament for most, all boats made it back in one piece and only one person was late for take-off. Please remember that it is your responsibility to ensure that you are at the ramp No Later than the designated time. Arriving late not only disrupts and delays the tournament, but is very disrespectful to your partner as well.

Our next tournament will be launching at Scott Driver Park on Lake Okeechobee on July 25th, with our club meeting on July 8th. If you are interested in joining the club, please call Mark Lundgren at 540-809-5238 or Carl Lewis at 772-528-5652.

Good luck and tight lines!
