Hunter with tourney big fish - 2.30 pounds.

Tropical Storm Fay passed by South Florida just in time for our monthly tournament. Launch was at Safe Light and everyone scattered from one end of the Taylor Creek Launch Area to the other. Weather held great and almost every angler came in with at least 1 fish.

My partner and I found schooling fish at our first stop and I managed to get one keeper, got hit a second time but missed. My partner got hit several times but also missed. That's the way it went for most of the rest of the day.

About 1:30 PM, in the Rim Canal, we saw a fish strike, I had a Senko tied on and my partner Matt was doing the Carolina Rig thing. He made the first cast and came back with nothing although he got hit. I made a cast and pulled the lure through some lillies and felt a tug, I set the hook and felt the fish on. My line then went limp and I thought I had lost him. About the time I was saying the "S" word, I had a tug on my line and I started reeling in again. I landed a nice 1.90 pounder. I'm not sure if the fish was on all the time and just ran towards the boat or she hit it a second time after I pulled it away from her. Whatever, it's water under the bridge now.

We stayed in that area for about 45 minutes seeing numerous strikes but were never able to hook anything else. We were about ready to leave when Skip pulled up and told us he had caught a bunch of fish West. We headed that way and Matt got one strike on his first cast but missed it. He got a second strike about 5 minutes later and missed that one. I never got hit there. It was time to head to the ramp for the weigh-in. We only had 2 fish onboard.

One other bit of Information, Tropical Storm Fay dropped massive amounts of rain in Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding area. When all is said and done and with Water Management' and the Corps of Engineers promises, the level of the lake on August 25 was 13.11 inches and coming up 3 to 4 inches each day. Soon, real soon, we'll be back on the Lake searching for the large mouth bass. Next Tournament will be on C-23 or County Line Canal. See you at the Ramp and Tight Lines
