Mark with 5.17 pound Tournament Big Fish.
East Coast Bass Anglers held their monthly tournament on Lake Istakpoga, near Sebring on Saturday, August 25th. I spent two days on the lake prior to the tournament with other members of East Coast Bass Anglers prefishing for this tournament. Both prefishing days were negative, notta, nothing. I spent at least six hours on the lake during prefishing along with a partner with no results. The tournament was not much better. Low disolved oxygen in the water is most likely the cause of the slow bite. However, on Tournament day, my partner managed to finally get one fish at about 2:20 in the afternoon. Bobby Sheltra who had also spent at least three trips to the lake prior to the tournament came to the scale with only one fish. (He released it before I got his photo.)
Mike Schlueter, who came to the scale with three fish, a limit for this lake, fished with Hunter Broggi. Hunter was at least familiar with the lake as he was there with me the day before the tournament. Mike's three fish weighed 4.57 pounds. Hunter did not have a fish. Mike did not prefish on the lake before the tournament. Al Finster who fished with Bobby Sheltra did not catch a fish.
Leroy Bauer who also had been to the lake to prefish, came to the scale with zero. However, Mark Lundgren who was drawn as Leroy's partner, and who also prefished the lake with me, caught three nice fish during the day and would have come to the scale with approximately 9 pounds had he not been fishing as a guest and eligible only for Big fish Side Money. Mark had big fish for the tournament at 5.17 pounds.
So, this this the way it panned out:
- 1st Place - Hunter Broggi and Mike Schlueter with 4.51 pounds.
- 2nd Place - Leroy Bauer and Mike Schlueter with 4.51 pounds
- 3rd Place - Bobby Sheltra and Al Finster with 1.39 pounds
