Leroy with Tourney Big Bass at 3.17 pounds.
East Coast Bass Anglers held their monthly tournament August 21st launching out of Okeetanie, Lake Okeechobee, at safe light. Everyone headed to their favorite honey hold and so did Dean Baldwin and Carl Lewis. We fished our first spot until about 9:30 and then headed to Taylor Creek. I got a good keeper in our first spot but Dean could only catch shorts. We left there and proceeded up the creek for a couple of miles where Dean latched on to one about 2 pounds, his 3rd fish for the day.
We then went back to one of the off canals and I got my 4th fish with a lot of shorts. We came out of that canal and went to another where just inside the mouth, I landed my 5th fish, now I had my limit. We both caught a couple more short fish and decided to return to our first spot. Upon arrival, Leroy Bauer and his partner Felix was leaving so we decided to go south to a spot I had found earlier in the week.
I managed two fish out of that spot, one of which culled a smaller fish from my live well. Dean got a couple of hits but nothing he could stick. So at 1:45 we headed back to the ramp making the run in 11 minutes. One last comment: Let me tell you for sure it was one hot day out on the lake.
We ended the tournament before the afternoon rain came but it caught most of us on the way home so no rain suits today. That ended our tournament and everyone made it back to the ramp safe and sound. Next tournament is back on Lake Okeechobee launching at the Okeetanie ramp on September 18th at safe light. See ya there
