Dean Baldwin had Tourney Big Fish.
(fish not shown!)
Carl Lewis, Loel Branscomb, Leroy Bauer and Bobby Sheltra arrived at our Tournament Site on Friday, Carl, Loel and Bobby proceeded out on the lake to do a little preliminary scouting for fish but had no luck. At least not much. We returned to our nightly hang out and waited for Leroy to arrive with the venison for a stew that were were going to prepare for our dinner. As you can see from the photos, dinner was great, Bobby had a steak and some salad, the rest of us had the stew and let me tell you, it was great.
After chatting about numerous things and taking a few photos, it was off to bed in preparation for tomorrow's tournament. Morning came much to soon but we were ready when the rest of the tournament anglers arrived.
We launched at The Grape Hammock Ramp and went out to the river to wait for a little fog to lift and proceed to each fishing hole. At about 6:55 A.M. it was time to go. Everyone was outta there. I went to my first stop up the lake a couple of miles and fished with my partner, Walter Hunter for about 2 hours. About an hour after our arrival, I got my first hit but missed it. Within just a couple of seconds Walter got a good hit but also missed it. About 10 minutes later, I got my second hit and missed it. I immediately threw beyond the area of the strike and came back towards the area and when I was there, the fish hit a second time and I set the hook and didn't miss this one. Put that fish in the boat. About an hour later, we left and went to the north bay with no results, then through the Pig Trail to the Kissimmee River side with no luck. One strike but I missed that one. Bob Haarer and his partner were having about the same luck. We left the area and headed back south.
Bob Haarer and Dean Mancini went to the west side of the lake near the boat ramp and I went to the east side. Wind was blowing abut 20 to 25 knots and it was not good. Moved and tried up around the Kissimmee River Lock with no results. The rain started about 2:00 and it made the rest of the tournament almost unbearable. However, everyone did not have the same luck. One angler, Leroy Bauer and his partner, had eight fish in the boat. Leroy had his limit and Loel had three.
