December 2010 Results

John Hodgson with 5.88 pound Tourney Big Bass.

Launch was delayed at this tournament somewhat due to fog, pea soup, down right thick. But we were out and about at approximately 6:30 A.M. Careful running was the key to an uneventful launch. Everyone headed to their favorite spots on the lake as did this angler.

I stopped along with my partner at our first spot and I hooked into two fish but was not able to get them to the boat, hence, a quick release. We fished the area for about 2 hours with no results, so we headed out to the south end of the lake, After a few casts, I hooked into a keeper and it was a long dry spell before the second bite came but I got it to the boat also. My partner, Ron Oeschner, hooked into one and put it in the boat. Both of us had several hits after that but were not able to get the bass in for some reason.

At about 1:45 we decided to try a canal that we had been in a few days before and caught a few fish. When we arrived at the mouth of it, it was totally blocked with Lilly pads and we could not get through. We started back out and the water was so low that the outboard picked up a lot of trash in the water intakes and the motor heated up. After working with it a few minutes we had it cleaned enough for the water to flow again. But we were still very shallow and decided to use the electric trolling motor to get out of the low water spot while fishing along the way.

I picked up my rod and made a cast to the side and was hit almost immediately and set the hook and got the fish to the boat. We both thought we had hit on something and would catch our limit in the new few minutes but alas, it was not to be. So at about 2:20 we headed back to our first spot and hit it a for few minutes to no avail. That ended the tournament.

The good note about the whole day was that the sun finally burned the fog off about 10:30 so at least we could see where we were going. There were a total of 38 bass caught during the tournament which weighed 67.33 pounds. Sixteen Anglers fished this tournament and that is the best turnout this year. Hope to see you all again next year at every tournament. Our next tournament will be on Lake Okeechobee, January 22, 2011. All members of East Coast Bass Anglers would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. See you at Belle Glade for our first Tournament Next Year.l
