Skip just doesn't believe he caught only two bass.

(This Tournament Report Prepared by: Carl Lewis, President, East Coast Bass Anglers) East Coast Bass Anglers launched out of Scott Driver Ramp at the Mouth of the Kissimmee River Feb 21st. All anglers headed for their honey holes. After two days on the lake of prefishing and not coming up with anything except short fish, I was resolved to the fate that it was not to be. I proceeded to Taylor Creek and to places where I have caught fish in the past. The first spot just inside the lock produced no hits and of course no fish.

So, I proceeded to the second spot where what looked like some decent shad schooled against the wall. After several unsuccessful cast to the feeders, I made a cast out about 10 feet from where they were hitting, well away from the wall and hooked up on a good 2 pounder. The schoolers were still there and still not hitting. I tried 5 different lures with negative results. So, I moved on down to another spot with negative results again. I returned to the schooling fish and soon had a second hit. Not as good as the first fish but it was a keeper at 13 inches.

I proceeded then to a fairly new location off the main canal and with the first cast got hit but lost the fish on the way to the boat. It was small and I don't think it would have been kept anyway. This area did not produce another bit. So, I I went 1/2 mile trolling without a hit, I even changed the bait. I was about ready to turn around when I tossed the bait into some lilly pads and "WHAM", I almost got the rod jerked out of my hands and so I set the hook and it was a nice 2 1/2 pounder, my biggest fish. I still had about 1 1/2 hours left to fish and changed sides still trowing the same bait. No luck, so I switched back to the other bait on which I had caught 3 of my 4 fish. I made about 30 casts with no luck and it was time to head for the ramp but, one final cast. Slam, I got another fish, got it to the boat and put it on the golden rule. Short by 1/4 of an inch. That sucked but it was time to head in. I got back to the ramp with about 10 minutes to spare, so I just docked the boat and waited for the rest of the crew to arrive. One by one they came in. That pretty much ended the day and the results are as follows First Place Boat: The Team of Hunter Broggi and Mike Schlueter 3.89 and 6..03 Total Weight 9.92 pounds
Second Place Boat: Carl Lewis and Leroy Bauer 6.15 and 3.75 Total Weight: 9.90 pounds (Oops .02 short of First Place
Third Place Boat: Bob Haarer and Carl Lewis 3.66 and 6.14 Total Weight: 9.81 pounds (oops again .11 short of First Place
One more fish would have made the difference for the team of Carl and Leroy or the team of Carl and Bob, but it was not to be.

However in the Standings for Angler of the year the top six have changed dramatically:

We had 5 Anglers who did not fish this tournament. Any one of which could have made the outcome different.

Jim Steward, who fished as a guest for the tournament, came to the scale with one nice fish in the 2 pound range. We're looking forward to seeing Jim back next month and making him a permanent member of the club.

We would like to thank Skip for pitching in as the Tournament Director for this Tournament, as our Director, Matt Johnson, had duty at work (and that sucks). Anyway, See ya all at the ramp next month. Tight Lines
