July 2010 Results

Mark with Tourney Big Bass at 6.44 pounds.

East Coast Bass Anglers had their monthly Tournament on The Palm Beach Canal System on Saturday, July 25, 2010. After Tropical Storm Bonnie had passed over the Southern tip of Florida, we expected some rain during the tournament but it never happened. Weather was great with a few clouds from time to time passing through.

My partner, Loel and I, decided to start our day off by staying in the launch lake, which I call the Airport Hole, because it's directly under the flight path for Palm Beach International. We took off and went to the south end of the lake with Loel using a frog and I opted for my buzz bait (later Loel would change to a pig and jig) We fished along the west wall and Loel got a hit but missed it. Just a couple of pitches later he pulled in one about 2 1/2 pounds. A little farther down, one jumped up on my Buzz bait and I put one about 1 1/2 pounds in the boat. A few casts later, I hooked into one that was about 3 1/2 pounds on the edge of the Lilly pads 30 yards from the boat ramp.

We decided then to go to a couple of other of Loel's good spots where he hooked his second fish and put it in the boat. We fished on along until we got to Lake Clark and went in. We fished the spots where each of us had caught fish before but had no luck until we got to my favorite spot on Lake Clark. I made a cast to a point with some scattered Lilly pads and pulled the buzz bait through the pads and just as it came out on the boat side, a good 4 1/2 pound Bass came up and nailed it. We fished some more of my spots with no luck and proceeded back to the Airport Hole. We fished along for a while and Loel got another hit but missed it. We went to the east side and fished along a little but with no luck. We then headed for the Weigh in.

It was a good day of fishing with 22 fish caught. Total weight of those fish was: 60.28 pounds. After some tournament chat between the anglers about the big one that got away, we packed it in and headed for the house. It was a good day of fishing with some nice fish coming to the scales. Next tournament will be launching out of Okeetanie on August 21st. See you at the Ramp. Tight Lines
