Leroy Bauer with the Tournament Big Bass.
This month (October), we launched out of Harney pond at safe light. I went up the canal just past the bridge and started fishing back towards the ramp. We fished for about 300 yards with no hits. We fired up the big motor and headed for the walk over bridge. There was a fisherman there casting a pop R in the the opening and another fishing in the cut so we just moved on down the canal towards the front. Three openings down we passed through and caught our first fish. We kept an eye on the guy in the first opening and about an hour later he moved. We trolled down to where he had been and the fish schooled up and we started catching them. I culled a couple of small fish I had caught in the other opening and my partner had touble getting the hook set on them. I fish with a horney toad frog, flappin' Shad, Fluke, spinner bait and rattle trap. As many fish as there were in the area, they should have been hitting the Trap but "NOT". My partner Matt Johnson managed two fish for the day and I had five. Our total of just under 10 pounds won the tournament. both Ken Hall and I had the five fish limit. The fish were small with my five weighing just under eight pounds and Ken's five weighing in at just under five pounds. It was a tough tournament with only 16 total fish caught.
Congratulations to Walter Hunter on catching the first fish in the tournament. Standings are:
Next Tournament has been changed from Ansin Garcia to Okee-Tantie or Scott Drive, which ever is more convenient. The change is necessary due to the low water at Ansin Garcia. Our meeting for November will be November 21st with the Tournament on Saturday, November 25th.
See ya at the meeting. Tight Lines.
